Does OnTheMarket.com matter when letting your home?
With more house-hunters than ever now starting their property search online, it is crucial that a property has a good website presence, including listing on the main property portals, as part of a good marketing strategy designed to achieve the highest possible rental price.
Whichever letting agent you opt to appoint to let your home, or indeed estate agent if you are planning to sell, it is important that they have a strong online presence that goes beyond simply listing properties on their own website, and that means adverting your property on the main property websites, including user-friendly property portals that list homes for sale and to let.
While Rightmove and Zoopla are by far the UK’s largest portals, there are a host of smaller and up-and-coming websites looking to attract greater market share, with OnTheMarket.com currently leading the way when it comes to ‘emerging’ portals.
OnTheMarket.com, supported by a strong national marketing campaign, now has the support of more than 7,000 UK estate and letting agent offices, including those that have signed letters of intent to join theportal in the near future, with traffic to the website continuing to increase in April to reach a record level of 7.25 million visits, which is rather impressive, given that the website only launched in January 2015.
“Our progress has been rapid: we had over 7.25 million visits in April, we are providing a growing volume of high quality enquiries to our agents and we are greatly encouraged by the feedback we receive from the overwhelming majority of our members and consumers alike,” said Ian Springett, CEO of OnTheMarket.com.
However, OnTheMarket’s traffic remains low compared to the main two property portals, with Zoopla attracting close to 50 million average monthly visits to its website and mobile apps, while more than 120 million people visit Rightmove each month.
Springett (pictured) accepts that it will “take time” for OnTheMarket.com to attract as many consumer visits as the market-leading portals, but believes that the website is on the right road to delivering more online traffic and leads that agents increasingly rely upon to help you achieve the best price for your property.
